Hello loves ❤
If you hate your job so much you’d rather do just about anything other than get up and go to work, quit. If you hate coming home at the end of a long day because you can’t stand to look your partner in the face, leave. If you are sick and tired of the way your life is going, do something about it.
If you hate your life that much–change it. Stop moaning and groaning about it, and actually do something.
Do you think anyone wants to work with someone who is miserable? No. Do you think you’re doing yourself or your partner a favor by staying with them when you can’t stand to be in the same room as them? No. Do you think you’re really going after what you want when you half-ass things and give up after a few bumps? Nope.
Things aren’t going to magically happen for you. The expression “good things come to those who wait” is bullshit. Good things aren’t just going to come to you. Sure, good things might happen every once in a while but the life-changing kind of good things you’re looking for aren’t just going to fall in your lap. If you want life-changing things to happen to you, you have to go work your ass off to get them. You have to put in the work to see the results.
Unless you’re one of the select few, you’re not just handed your dream job or a company, you have to actually work your ass off for it. And even after you work your ass off for it, it still won’t be easy.
Do you want to quit your 9-5 to start your own company? Hell yeah, that’s awesome. It takes a lot of hard work and even after all that hard work you still might fail because that’s life and sometimes life sucks but at the end of the day you’re the only person who can decide to go after your dreams or keep drinking the watered down kool-aid. It’s your choice. It’s always your choice because it’s your life–no one else’s.
The only person in control of your life is you.
If you hate that you’re single but won’t go out on dates when people ask you, you’re holding yourself back from what you want. If you think you’re getting underpaid but won’t ask your boss about a raise, you’re part of the problem. Ask. If he/she says no, look for another job! It’s not that complicated.
The solutions to the problems we build in our heads are a hell of a lot easier than we make them out to be. Most people are just too scared to actually do anything about it. Fear kills more dreams, hopes and desires than failure ever will because most people look at failure as if it’s a bad thing. If you want something bad enough you’ll make it happen. You’ll figure it out and if you don’t figure it out at least you’ll be able to look yourself in the mirror and know you gave it your all, and that’s a lot more than most people can say. Most people are too scared to even try. Don’t be one of those people.
Don’t come home at the end of your day and ruin everyone else’s mood because you’re too lazy to do something about the current situation you’re in. It’s no one else’s fault but your own. You can’t blame anyone else for your shit because at the end of the day it’s your shit, and you have to own it and deal with it.
Stop being your own worst enemy and standing in the way of what you really want. Stop making excuses for your shitty behaviors and life. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Honestly, you can feel sorry for yourself all you want but no one else cares; no one else is stopping their life because you’re throwing yourself a pity party. At the end of the day, people are selfish by nature and they do not care about your shit because they’ve got their own shit to deal with.
If you want a better life, act like it. Actually make efforts, make changes, make actual strides to bettering yourself and stop just talking about it. If you want a better life you have to make an effort to better yourself.
Stop saying next month you’ll eat healthier or go to the gym. Stop saying next month you’ll launch your own website or submit your writing. Stop saying next month you’ll quit smoking. Stop putting everything you want to do off to the side and continue to make excuses because it’s easy, and actually DO something.
Change is hard, that’s why people stay in unhealthy relationships, continue to work jobs that make them miserable and avoid changing their bad habits at all costs because change is uncomfortable and scary but if you actually want a better life you have to do something about it.
Again, you are the only one who can make your life better.
Stop standing in the way of your own happiness and success, and stop blaming others for the way your life is going. Life doesn’t owe you anything, neither does anyone else. It’s not fair but sometimes that’s just how it goes. When your shit hits the fan you have to be on your knees cleaning it up and figuring out how to move forward regardless.
Don’t live a life of regret because you weren’t willing to make the needed changes in your life to get you where you want to be.
If you want a better life, start living like it. Now.
Wherever you are in the world, have a lovely day ❤

My favorite part of “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng was when her main character listened to a teen complain and responded simply with, “so what are you going to do about it?” It was a simple reframing, requiring action. And it struck home, just like this tough-love post!

Great Post! Sometimes we often get so caught up in moaning and groaning when we could be taking that energy and applying it to the changes that we desire. Thanks for the reminder!

Oh man this is so true!!! It’s so scary to get out there and make the life you want but it’s much more rewarding than suffering. Thank you for this post battling mental illness makes it so easy for me to slip into despair but I’ve got to remember that’s not what I want or who I want to be.

It’s not easy *at all*, but I agree. I remember seeing others not happy with what they were doing, and trying to make them see the light. Unfortunately, you can’t control others, and my feeling is that some people will just end up putting up with their jobs. As an INFP, my feeling is also that I am more sensitive to the work I am doing/environment/impact I am making than the average person, hence the overwhelming desire to do something that reflects who I am.

So true!!! I don’t naturally love my job but I choose to love it while I’m on my journey of study as it is a great fit for in between. I focus on all the positives and make the best of it 😊

Change is really hard but you’re right…The only way to improve your circumstances is to take the leap. Plan but don’t stop there. Don’t let the planning be your excuse not to make the change. Start and you can adjust along the way. Very motivating! Thanks!

Once we take that leap we are GREAT 🙂

Yes!! I know so many people that are content to just live a life of mediocrity. I don’t want to be one of those people. I want to make a life that I’m excited about! That’s why I started my blog, and that’s why I’m going to tell my friends that I’m ready to begin dating. It’ll be hard, but I’d rather work towards my goals than be frustrated that my life is going nowhere.
